What is Homegrown Ontario™?
Homegrown Ontario is a program designed to help consumers clearly identify Ontario meat and poultry products. Research from Canada’s leading survey-based marketing research firm, Ipsos Reid, clearly indicates that Ontario consumers are eager to support Ontario farmers and the local economy by choosing meat and poultry products produced in Ontario. The Homegrown Ontario brand and logo make it easier for consumers to do just that.
The Homegrown Ontario program initially began in 2006 as a collaboration of the Ontario Pork Producers Marketing Board (OPPMB), The Ontario Veal Association (OVA) and the Ontario Sheep Marketing Agency (OSMA). In 2010, the Ontario Independent Meat Processors (OIMP) assumed ownership of the Homegrown Ontario brand. The OIMP represents the interest of 273 meat and poultry processors, packers and retailers across Ontario.
Show your patrons that you support buying local by signing up to our program and adding meat and poultry products that carry the little red barn with the trillium in the centre to your menu. It’s a guarantee that the meat and poultry is coming from an Ontario farm and was processed in Ontario.
Who supplies Homegrown Ontario™ products?
Many foodservice suppliers already offer Ontario produced meat and poultry. However, with the Homegrown Ontario program the product will now be clearly identified with the Homegrown Ontario logo. A full list of Homegrown Ontario suppliers can be found here.
