Casey’s is the First Casual Dining Chain to Feature Homegrown Ontario™ Meat on its Menu
Casey’s Fall Menu enables Ontario guests to “eat local” through innovative promotion with Ontario farmer and winery
Mississauga, ON – October 16, 2008 – Casey’s Grill · Bar is offering its more than 10,000 guests across the province the opportunity to eat and drink local while dining out, as part of its new fall menu that runs until November 30. The 10 oz. Mojito Pork Chop featured on the limited-time menu uses pork from the Linton family farm in Huron County, Ontario making Casey’s the first casual dining chain to offer Homegrown Ontario™ product to its customers. Being a part of the Homegrown Ontario program guarantees guests the pork used in the Mojito Pork Chop has been born, raised and processed in Ontario. Customers will be able to identify the new menu item by the Homegrown Ontario logo, a red barn with a trillium in the centre.
“As a local Canadian business ourselves, Casey’s is always looking for opportunities to buy Canadian and support local farmers and producers,” says Grant Cobb, Senior Vice President of Casey’s Grill · Bar. “Fitting our class-to-mass strategy, we are pleased to be able to help thousands of Ontario consumers discover the fresh taste of homegrown goodness in addition to our classic favourites at their local Casey’s.”
As part of its fall profile of local Ontario food and drink, Casey’s is also the first major chain to feature the Hillebrand Artist Series Wines program that combines the art of painting with wine-making. Each of the four bottles of Hillebrand wines offered in the program including a 2006 Limited Edition Pinot Gris, a 2007 Unoaked Chardonnay, a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2007 Meritage will feature the original work of an Ontario artist that captures the spirit and beauty of the province. The wine itself – from renowned winemaker, Darryl Brooker – offers guests Ontario’s finest VQA wine made from grapes across the Niagara region. Prices for the Hillebrand Artist Series Wines program start at $6.49 per glass and $23.99 per bottle.
“The beauty of our fall program with Hillebrand is that it not only promotes the scenery and artistry of Ontario – it also encourages Ontarians to explore and discover new flavours of VQA wines like the Meritage and Pinot Gris that they may never have tried before but are a definite “must-try” for both the novice and wine connoisseur,” adds Cobb.
Casey’s new limited time fall menu was created by its Executive Chef, Niels Kjeldsen. Other items on the new menu include seasonal comfort-foods with exciting new twists such as the Harvest Corn Soup, Classic Wedge salad, Butternut Squash Ravioli, Stacked Sandwich, Steak Oscar and a delicious slice of Pumpkin Pie for dessert. Prices for Casey’s fall menu start at $5.99.
“Using local ingredients is very inspiring, as it enables me as a Chef to develop dishes that capture and reflect the true flavours and essence of the region,” says Chef Niels Kjeldsen.
